I witnessed a close friend's struggle with drug addiction and solicitation in college and it left a profound impact on me. It was heart-wrenching to see someone I cared about lose themselves to addiction, and it ignited in me a burning desire to make a difference in the lives of those battling similar demons.

A Spark of Inspiration

My father, Dr. Robert Clendenin, ran a traditional medical clinic, and I was exploring ways to leverage my business and marketing background to extend its reach. The pivotal moment came when a person walked into our clinic, desperate for help to escape the grip of street drugs. Seeing my father make such a change in this person's live this individual was a revelation. It made me realize the potential of focusing on addiction recovery. Initially, I tried marketing our services locally, but it became apparent that many who needed help were struggling to commit to recovery due to their busy lives or where they lived. The ease of falling back into drugs was a constant threat.

Adapting to Patient Needs

The need for a more flexible approach to treatment was clear. Our patients' busy lives made regular clinic visits challenging, increasing the risk of relapse. Desperate to not lose a patient, my dad mentioned that he could just see them over a video call and he didn’t need to see them in person. This realization led us to pivot towards telemedicine out of necessity. We started offering remote visits, allowing patients to consult with my dad on their schedule. This shift proved to be a game-changer. Patients were more committed to the recovery process when it fit into their lives more seamlessly.

The Birth of Prescriptions Today

As telehealth took root, we saw a significant change. Our patients were responding better to this new format, and it was clear that this was the future of addiction recovery treatment. With this success, we made the bold decision to close the physical clinic and move entirely online, marking the official beginning of "Prescriptions Today." This platform wasn't just a clinic; it was a new hope for those who felt overwhelmed by the traditional healthcare system.

Overcoming Challenges

Transitioning from a physical clinic to an entirely online platform was fraught with challenges. We had to navigate technological hurdles and adapt our approach to treatment, it took time to wait for the laws to pivot into our favor to allow us the freedom we needed to help people in more situations. With the Covid pandemic moving so many services online, the government opened up access to full recovery treatment through remote telehealth visits. This was the break we needed to really make this a reality.

Personal Reflection

This journey with "Prescriptions Today" has been more than just a professional undertaking for me; it's been a mission, driven by my own experiences and a deep desire to help. Working alongside my father, I've not only grown professionally but also deepened our friendship. It's been a path of immense learning and fulfillment.
